A surge of panic coursed through Vergil's veins as his crystal blue eyes read the note over and over again.

'We have her. If you want her back, please meet us in the back alley of 14th Avenue and pay us a ransom of $2,000,000,000 in cash. If you fail to do this by next Wednesday at 11:00 P.M., we will proceed to use Ms. (L/N) as our first artificial human-demon hybrid through new techniques of genetic mutation.

- The H-H Team'

"'The H-H Team'... 'The H-H Team'..." Vergil paced the living room with an air of dread and frustration. He scoured through his memories, trying to remember any mention of this unfamiliar 'H-H Team', but to no avail. He glanced at his phone periodically, hoping and almost praying that you somehow replied to his deluge of texts and calls. He stuffed the piece of paper in his backpocket and flew out the door, arriving minutes later at the threshold of his little brother's business. The illuminating neon pink of the words 'Devil May Cry' casted away the surrounding darkness in its appallingly bright light as Vergil entered in a hurry.

"Ah, welcome Big Bro. What can I get'cha?" Dante smirked as he swallowed the last piece of pizza. "just droppin' by to say hi or somethin'?"

Vergil ignored Dante's laid back welcome and slammed the mysterious note down on the desk. Dante lazily sat up and snatched the note, his eyes leisurely flowing over the pristinely typed ink on paper. As he read further, his brows furrowed deeper and he started fidgeting uncomfortably in his seat.

"I need you to do some research for me," Vergil began. "and I need it done by tonight."

After re-reading the note for perhaps the fourth time, Dante looked up slowly and nodded his head in deep thought.

"... I'll see what I can do."

~*~

"What?! $2,000,000,000?!" Trish nearly choked on her soda. Lady read the note for confirmation and she looked like she was about to faint if she read any more.

"Yes. Our household funds are about $300,000. That mere amount pales in comparison to that ransom."

"Jackpot!" Dante's voice rang out boomingly and in just a second, everyone in the tiny shop was huddled around Dante's worn computer.

"'The H-H Team (also known as 'The Human-Hybrid Team') is a group of fanatics and scientists interested in the study of the paranormal and the forbidden practices of human cross breeding. What started out as a small group consisting of close friends, their network has grown to a global scale since then.'"

"But why did they decide to target (F/N)?" Lady growled, gripping Kalina Ann tighter.

"Probably because of her relations with us," Dante's throat bobbed up and down. "especially Vergil."

Vergil visibly stiffened and Dante realized what his statement sounded like.

"Now hang on. I ain't pointin' fingers or anything. I'm just saying that because she's your girl Verg, they were probably very interested in her."

"That makes sense..." Lady nodded slowly.

"Huh. You really can use that brain of yours." Trish smirked.

Dante merely rolled his eyes but an air of seriousness enveloped the younger brother. "But really Verg. That's probably all the help I can give you. I'm penniless. Just ask Lady."

Lady sighed impatiently and kicked the floor. "And I can't possibly accumulate that much money in a week. It's impossible."

"We can't let (F/N) die." Vergil remarked, a cold edge in his voice.

"Guess there's only one way to settle this." Dante reached for Ebony and Ivory with a menacing glint in his eyes. The two women also brandished their weapons in silence, but it was more than enough to tell Vergil that they were in too.

Vergil gave them all a grateful bow. "Thank you. We will meet at my apartment 15 minutes prior."

Everyone nodded in affirmation; Lady and Trish silently left Devil May Cry together, wondering how they hell they were going to get $2,000,000,000 in just 7 days.

~*~ Wednesday, 10:45 P.M. ~*~

Lady and Trish scraped up about $90,000 when the dreaded day had come. Normally they would have been proud to have accumulated that much money in such a short amount of time, but today they entered Vergil's apartment ashamed and their heads hung low.

"We're sorry... We just barely made about $90,000." Lady muttered while Trish took a seat beside Dante.

"Is it all in cash?" Vergil asked, counting his money for the umpteenth time.

"Yeah. Here." Trish took the brown briefcase from Lady and handed the semi-heavy luggage to the older brother. Vergil went to the table and unclasped briefcase, opening it just a crack. Stacks of greens bound together with rubber bands were neatly compacted together so there were no cracks. Vergil didn't have the heart or time to count the money, so he just took the two women's word and assumed that it amounted up to $90,000.

"$390,000... That's not even half the ransom." Dante sighed, picking the dirt underneath his fingernails. The clock just struck 10:50 P.M. 10 more minutes.

"I guess we just have to settle this the hard way." Trish's jaw clenched as she stood up.

"Should we still give them the money?" Lady asked.

"What's the point? We don't got the $2,000,000,000. They'll just take the money and kill (F/N) anyways."

"... We'll bring the money just in case," Vergil concluded, standing up. "Come. It is time."

The four of them all jumped in Vergil's car and raced out of the parking lot. The 4-minute ride felt like an eternity and then some. Lady and Trish looked at the scenery that was whizzing by while Dante and Vergil kept a solemn expression on their face while they stared straight ahead.

"Here. 14th Avenue. Park over there, V."

Vergil smoothly slid the car to the side of the road and halted rather abruptly. Seat belts flew off and just like that, the car was abandoned. Trish and Dante gravitated toward the middle, carriying the briefcases. Lady followed a pace behind, periodically looking over her shoulder to make sure no one was following them. Vergil was, of course, at the front of the group, his hand gripping Yamato's handle tighter with each step. His honed senses informed him that someone, or something, was there. He stopped and motioned the group to stop as well. His ears perked up and everyone held their breath, listening to the eerie howling of the wind as if it were some sort of empty melody.

"You're here."

Vergil pulled out Yamato in a heartbeat and he bit his lips in anticipation.

"Who are you. Show yourself." Everyone started looking around their environment in silent bewilderment. Whatever this thing was, it sure knew how to hide itself.

"Set the money approximately 7 feet in front of you." Came the same voice. After several seconds, Vergil looked over at the two demon hunters with such intensity, they couldn't help the shiver that was crawling down their spines.

"Are you sure you want to be doing this Verg?"

"Any hesitation will be considered direct disobedience." Answered the voice in Vergil's stead."

Dante's throat constricted tightly as his feet wandered past Vergil and set the briefcase down a good distance away. Trish did the same a few moments later.

Silence.

Nothing but an eerie silence.

Their hearts pounded harder and harder until they were all sure they were going to explode. Vergil's ribs started to hurt and he had to remind himself to breathe lest he faint from lack of oxygen.

"This..." The voice started, sending everyone into high alert again. "This isn't even half of what I asked for."

The last few words were stated so icily, so expressionlessly, that even Vergil trembled just a tad. Nonetheless, he held his head high and spoke with as much dignity as before.

"We couldn't make that much money in the given time frame. Our deepest apologies."

Once again, silence reigned in that cramped alley that was reeking with a musky, almost foul smell.

"... I see," Said the voice. "I foresaw that. Which was why I started... experimenting early."

"You what?" Vergil pulled out Yamato as fire and brimstone flashed in the half-demon's eyes.

"And I am pleased to inform you that it was a success." Chuckled the voice. Vergil started trembling. Not from fear. Not from intimidation. But from anger. Pure, wholesome anger was oozing out of the man's every pore. Not even Dante bothered to call out to his brother, to calm him down. It was too late. Vergil has lost it.

"You bastard! Show yourself!" Vergil roared, kicking away the briefcases and planting himself before his invisible enemy. "Show yourself before I cut you down!"

"Oh, is someone upset?" Mocked the voice. "since I am rather... busy, I will be sending someone else in my stead."

Vergil's eyes widened and his jaw trembled. "You wouldn't dare..."

"(F/N), come on out! It's showtime!"

Falling from above, a large, hideous witch with unproportional grey wings slammed onto the broken cement, cracking it even further. A terrible shriek left Lady's throat as Dante rushed over to steady his shaking brother. Trish dropped to her knees as sound failed to come out of her throat.

"I would love to introduce you to C-98L, or Nyscilla as we decided to call her. Nyscilla, say hello."

Growls and guttural groans left the throat of this wretched monster as saliva foamed at its mouth and dripped to the ground.

"Well, I'll leave you to it. Au revoir!"

"(F/N)... Is that you, Babe?" Dante could barely calm his brother since he himself was shaking like a leaf on a windy day.

"(F/N)..." Vergil shrugged Dante off and began stumbling towards the demon.

"Vergil?! Get back here, man!"

"(F/N)," The cries of all his friends seemed to die down into nothingness as he was pulled into his own little world. "what did they do to you?"

You were the most hideous thing he has ever laid eyes on. Unlike most demons he's encountered, you didn't even have a definite form to call your own. You were just a hunched, twitching mess. Scales and unporportional bumps replaced your smooth, baby-like skin that he yearned to touch. Your sweet (E/C) eyes were bulging out of their sockets, making his stomach churn. His heart slowly chipped away the longer he looked at you. Your limbs twisted this way and that- he wasn't even sure what was a leg or what was an arm. Biting his lip, he unsheathed Yamato and got into a fighting stance.

"Verg?!"

"No! Don't kill her! Don't kill our (F/N)!"

"Trish, she's not (F/N) anymore!" Vergil hissed, snapping his head over the shoulder. He felt something wet tracing the contours of his cheek. His eyes widened as more tears leaked out of his eyes. He's... crying?

A high-pitched wail shot into the night. Everyone collapsed to their knees and their hands flew up to cover their ears. No one moved, fearing that if they moved their palms from their ears they would explode. After what felt like an eternity, it stopped and all was silent, except for the occasionally grunts and moans that would gurgle out of your throat.

"(F/N)," Tripping into a fighting stance, Vergil held his head high and wiped his teary eyes. "forgive me, my love."

In a sudden bolt of speed, Vergil rushed forward and sliced off a wing. The horrid creature shrieked, sending his eardrums ringing madly. Afterwards, everyone reluctantly unsheathed their weapons and attacked.

Dante shot you from afar, pelleting you with his endless stream of bullets. He couldn't possibly get close to you, lest he break down in the middle of a fight and start wailing your name.

It was hard for Lady to do anything since she was blinded so badly by her tears. Every time she shot Kalina Ann or swung her weapons at you, she'd hear your gentle, angelic voice in the back of her head. Your laugh. Your jokes. Your cries. Your everything. And it tore her to pieces, knowing she was one of the reasons why you were screaming in pain.

Trish would stun you with her lightning if you did so much as move, making it easier for everyone to strike. As she was mindlessly shooting bolts from her fingertips, her mind wandered to when she first met you- in Devil May Cry, having a pizza-eating contest with Dante. Strangely you won, intriguing the demoness. Since then, you, her, and Lady have become the best of friends, always teaming up to tease Dante or make fun of his empty wallet.

Vergil. That poor man. Everytime he slashed at your thick, calloused skin he'd have flashbacks of happier times. The first time you met, how you slowly charmed him with your adorable quirks and habits that made you- well- you, the dates after a long week, the passionate love-making that would usually end an exhausting day- everything. He sliced your neck with bone-chilling deftness and, for just a moment, he truly thought he heard your voice. Your sweet, sweet voice.

"Vergil, you should take a break every now and then! Always working isn't good you know."

He hastily equipped Beowulf and sent flurries of punches and kicks until he was sure you were seeing stars.

"Wow... The stars look beautiful tonight, don't they?"

"Vergil! Look, she's open! End her suffering and take her out now!" Dante screamed, shooting the demon in the eye. Vergil bit his lip and jumped, towering the buildings above. As he was coming down, his life flashed before his eyes. His days before he met you were boring. Monotonous. Find and kill the demons. Get minimum pay. Eat cold, sometimes moldy pizza with a sometimes drunk Dante. But after he met you, he started looking forward to tomorrows.

He'd get excited after a long day, knowing you'd be there waiting for him. He remembered the very moment he realized he fell for you. He remembered going to his little brother for relationship advice and cursing himself afterwards. Your first date. Your first kiss. Your first climax. You were his first for everything.

"Vergil! How was work today?"

"Goodness, you're so tense! You're like a plank!"

"I have to go now. I'll see you later, okay? Bye!"

He cut through the air like a meteor, your bloody body sprawled out on the alley floor.

"Farewell, (F/N)." With a war cry, Vergil guillotined you from above. Your still body stood there, spurting out your crimson like a fountain. After most of the blood was spewed out, you slumped into a pile of scale and bones, before disintegrating into dust. Vergil panted, trembling violently. All was still and silent. It wasn't until Dante tapped him on the shoulder that time seemed to flow again in the dark alley.

"We did it," Dante muttered, wiping the sweat and tears off his face. "she's at rest now."

"She..." Vergil murmured breathlessly. Lady and Trish staggered over to the two brothers, vainly stifling their cries. Vergil got up and looked over where you were at just moments ago.

"Yes," Vergil choked out, allowing the tears to flow freely down his face. "the deed is done."
